Take Twelve: Power and Priority: A Mother and Daughter Founding Team Builds an Empire

By: Dr. Gaby Cora

According to the US Department of Commerce, the number of women-owned businesses grew by 44% between 1997 and 2007, twice as fast as men-owned firms. We have grown accustomed to father-son founding teams through history. On the other hand, we don’t know the exact number of successful mother-daughter teams of entrepreneurs.

Is Your Brilliant Personality Killing Your Business?

By: Dr. Gaby Cora

“Manners Maketh Man” was our school motto. I was so young I couldn’t even read when this was said during our assemblies but I came to understand what it meant early on. We could be the greatest at what we did but the way in which we interacted with one another spoke more about our greatness than our intellectual or physical ability demonstrated during debates, competitions, and daily activities.

Are Alphas Healthier Than Their Counterparts?

By: Dr. Gaby Cora

Alpha males and females have intrinsic characteristics—aside from being competitive, controlling, and more aggressive, they are also born healthier, more energetic, and more resilient.

Sure, they can get themselves in to more stressful situations by virtue of being more dominant and on the front lines at all times, which in turn make them more vulnerable to personal attacks. Alphas get to have more head-to-head physical, emotional, and intellectual confrontations or plain collisions. Their innate ability to endure frontal assaults may exceed others’ genetic capabilities to sustain stress itself.

The Other Blind Side – Is Public Misbehavior Plain Bad Behavior or Mental Illness?

Barack Obama and his Day One Leadership Qualities

Leadership is the name of the game today. As we all join as one America we congratulate President Elect Barack Obama as one nation.
These are four leadership qualities that our new president elect is demonstrating on Day One:
1) Dedication: Rather than going off on vacation (right?), his first day has been busy at work choosing an outstanding team to get the job done.
2) Inclusiveness: Obama is already working across party lines in search of finding the best group and lead our nation through tough times.
3) Fast Forward : He’s won the election, no need to continue to talk about it. He is now moving forward at rapid speed.
4) Choosing other leaders with complementary skills: Obama is choosing leaders who complement his own leadership skills.

Should Companies Make Special Arrangements for Women Leaders With Children?

Much has been said about Governor Palin having her kids at work. All moms struggle with making sure their kids are in good hands while they are at work. Even when dads help out – and they do help out much more than they did fifty years ago – women are still the main caregivers even when they may be holding full-time jobs.

A Key Leadership Distinction

I am not a politician and have no interest in becoming a political analyst. In regards to leadership and strategy, though, I’m in.

There are some major distinctions in the selection of vice-presidents during this election. Senator Barack Obama chose well-respected Joe Biden, McCain-like in regards to his experience, seniority, long track record, and credibility. He chose Biden because he brought in his extensive experience in foreign affairs, in the military, and decades of commitment and work of service. His choice was of someone who had extensively more experience than he has. Obama’s forte includes his charm, rhetoric, and motivational persona, his perceived weaknesses being lack of experience and lack of focused planning.
