Q: What’s the deal with energy drinks like Red Bull or Full Throttle? How do they impact my body and energy?
A: We live such busy lives, is it any wonder so many of us feel tired and run-down and in need of a shot of energy to keep us going? Sadly, the recipe for good health and vigor simply can’t be bought in a single bottle of liquid. The most energetic people are those who are physically fit, and physical fitness comes from living a lifestyle that includes regular exercise, eating a healthy diet and routinely getting a good night’s sleep. Time management is also another piece of the puzzle, learning how to prioritize and leaving some time for rest, relaxation and even a quick cat-nap to reinvigorate ourselves during our long, hectic days.

Many who fear they have lost part of their wealth these days of high oil prices, frozen wages, and increased cost of living, also feel like they are losing their minds. Our response to stressful situations is a combination of our genetic make-up and our response to environmental triggers. Some of us will shoot our physiology to the roof with a good dose of norepinephrine in the fight-or-flight response to this stressor, experiencing a wide range of physical symptoms including heart palpitations, clammy hands, dizziness, or a sense of impending doom with fear.

It was with great sadness that we received the news of the untimely and sudden death of the great political journalist Tim Russert today. While watching Larry King’s tribute and poignant question regarding the challenging lifestyle of media experts, Ted Koppel, managing editor of the Discovery Channel, couldn’t but comment how Russert would always fill in for everyone else and also said “he worked too hard.” Interestingly, when Wolf Blitzer, CNN anchor, was asked if he would consider changing his lifestyle in any way, he smiled with sarcasm at the idea saying that, although others may feel he should, he wouldn’t, particularly as he found his job quite exhilarating.
