So much to do, are you setting your priorities?

By Dr. Gaby Cora

I am active in a mastermind program. The common thread of the past interactions among members have focused on the zillion things we need to do to successfully launch our “show,” that is, to successfully make our quantum leap.

Do you look like the man in the cover of my book?

Interestingly, juggling it all is both my forte as well as my Achilles foot: helping everyone multitask and yet reach their goals is my niche area.

These are some suggestions I have found helpful both in my experience coaching others as well as in achieving my own goals:

1) Grab pencil and paper and write your final goal in the center.

2) Create a mind-map by adding sub-sections that will help you reach that goal.

3) Write smaller actions (I love to work in threes) that would help you as you build each sub-section.

4) Now, this is the toughest part for everyone. Pick one, the easiest one that you could pursue and achieve.

5) Stick to it, refine it and shift gears if you need to focus on another area.

This is very simple, I know, but one of the major challenges I observe is people start focusing on all these activities at once and they don’t accomplish any at all.

This is my mental picture to achieve my goals:

GOAL (center)

  • 3 Strategies per Goal
  • 3 Tactics per Strategy
  • 3 Actions per Tactic

    Voila! It’s Done, Finito, Hecho!!!

    For example:

    1. If you want to use your book as your businesscard or brochure, you need to finalize your book first (that is, if you are going to self-publish, otherwise, you should focus on your proposal).

    2. Let’s say you have your great book in hand, what next? Send it to speaker bureaus? Send it to organizations? Give them away for free? Sell them as back-room sales? Sell them on the internet? Sell them alone or bundle them with ebooks or more products? You should think about all the options prior to doing anything.

    3. Every time you communicate, on all emails/pitches/responses to queries, use your book and platform to get more attention and exposure.

    4. Look for current events that tie to your core message - and pitch the book!

    5. Remember to simplify the message: summarize your message effectively and invite people to want more.
The book example is similar to a project, blog, article, product, service, any area you may want to focus on.
