Have you ever felt like you have a unique product..?
Have you ever felt like you have a unique product and when you openly tell others about it they immediately start copying your ideas and then you feel like you stay behind?
Someone just asked me this question. This person is not alone. It happens all the time.
Being a young researcher at the National Institutes of Health I first worked with an amazing group, an empire of clinical research conducting cutting edge studies with the ultimate sophisticated equipment, internet databases and amazing ideas. I found many in the group to be quite reserved and not sharing much information with the outside world until everything was pretty much “cooked and done.”
Instead, when I went to work with another smaller group, our approach was of being very open and create joint venture partnerships with other groups that complemented what we had to offer.
Bottom line:
Share everything about your service and product when you are ready to launch: your product is in good shape, you have created a great strategy, your team is in unison with a unique message and you are ready to share your product with the world.
On the other end, if you want to be open about your product or service and it is just an idea, share it with someone you truly trust and seek for the joint venture opportunity. Pitch your idea but don’t go into all the details until you have secured the partnership.
The stronger the product or service you create, the stronger the strategic, marketing and sales plan you design, the stronger your platform against any potential competition will be. If you position your product on top, the rest will try to copy it but you will have a competitive advantage because you have done it first.
